Say Hello to New SharePoint Online Web Parts for Modern Pages

In SharePoint online, both classic and modern pages support web parts. But there are some new web parts that are only available for Modern pages and not for classic pages. I am discussing some of them here:

Bing Maps:

This web part can be used to render Bing map on the page. When in edit mode we need to specify an address. We can even configure map types like aerial, road or we can even specify the zoom level.

Click on Add > Select “Bing maps” web part

Enter Address and click search. This will show up the location on a map.

Save or Publish the page.

Document Library:

This web part can be used to display a document library and user can customize this as his own Title, view etc. SharePoint permission set applies on this so the users with appropriate permissions can view and edit documents.

Click on Add > Select “Document Library” web part

Select Document library to show.

Save or Publish the page.

Embed:

This web part can be used to display content from other sites like youtube.

Click on Add > Select “Embed” web part

Provide Website URL or Embed code to show on a page.

File Viewer:

This web part can be used to show files on a page. These web parts support files like word, excel, powerpoint, pdf, Visio and 3D model.

Click on Add > Select “File Viewer” web part

Click on Add Document to select the file to be shown.

This will open a dialog. Select a file and click open.

Save or Publish the page. The selected file will show up on the page.

Hero:

This web part can be used to display up to 5 items and use compelling images, text, and links to draw attention to each. This web part is a great way to bring focus and visual interest to your page. This web part can be layout as either Tiles or Layers.

Click on Add > Select “Hero” web part

 

This web part can show contents either in Tiles layout or layers. Both Tiles and Layers have 5 layouts to choose from.

For each content- we can select a Link, Title, and Image.

Save or Publish the Page.

Microsoft Forms:

This web part can be used to create Surveys, Quizzes, and Polls. And same web part can also be used to show results.

Click on Add > Select “Microsoft Forms” web part

We can either use an Existing Form or we can create a new form. When creating new form it will ask for Form Name.

On clicking on create, a new Microsoft form will be created. Then we can design Design Form as required.

This web part can either show UI to collect responses or can show the Results.

Save or Publish the Page and it will show up the Response screen.

People:

This web part can be used to show some specific peoples and their profiles. For example, we can put this web part on sales site and can add sales team members. It can show Name, Contact Info, Photos etc of people in your organization.

Click on Add > Select “People” web part

This will prompt us to enter Names and also provide auto-complete functionality. We can enter as many names as we like.

Save or Publish the Page. On hovering, the Contact card of that user will show up.

Quick Chart:

This web part can be used to display simple charts on a modern page. These chart web parts use static data. We can enter data points, add labels, pick chart type as column or pie.

Click on Add > Select “Quick Chart” Web part

We can provide Label for the Horizontal and vertical axis and can provide up to 12 Data Label and values.
